The plight of the pretty, funny girl is an odd one. For one thing, a lot of people think she’s something of a unicorn. But LisaNova (real name Lisa Donovan) has overcome those barriers and naysayers, proving real talent for creating characters and parodying public figures. One of the few undisputed YouTube celebrities, her insanely popular videos led to a short-lived 2007 MadTV gig — as well as accusations that she artificially inflated her numbers.
But the Venice, CA-based creator is still actively contributing to the web video community, placing as a finalist in the 2007 Sketchies competition and making copyright-free “collabcharacter” clips available to any user who might want them. Reaping the benefits of the early adopter, LisaNova’s place in history as a YouTube icon is secure.
